The Border Cats managed only three hits as they lost 4-2 to the Alexandria Beetles before 706 fans Saturday night at Subway Field. The Beetles scored twice in the 7th inning to break a 2-2 tie and drop the Cats second half record to 0-3. Jason Kafka (San Jose State) took the loss in relief to fall to 0-1. Blake Fonfara (Lipscomb University) had a solid outing as he pitched six innings and gave up only six hits and two runs. The lefthander walked none and struck out six. The Cats opened the scoring as Adam Landecker (USC) delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the 4th inning, scoring Brett Kay (Illinois State). Landecker has hit safely in all eight games since he joined the Cats on June 30th. The Beetles took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 5th inning on a two-run homer by Ben Moore, but James Bonds (College of the Canyons) tied the game in the last of the 5th with a solo home run, his first of the season. The Cats and Beetles play the middle game of their three game series today at 5:05 p.m. Garrett Hughes (Stanford) will get the start on the mound for Thunder Bay. The lefthander is 0-1 in two starts with a 1.69 ERA. |
